Survey Reveals : “Chinese Scholars Still Prefer Google over Baidu”
At the juncture when Google and Chinese Government are preparing themselves to lock their heads, a survey performed by ‘Nature’ might put the later in an uncomfortable position. The survey (done among the Chinese researchers) reflected a stat that only establishes the quintessentiality of Google even in the land of Baidus. Out of Nature’s 784 surveyed scientists, a staggering 80 % had expressed their deep concern regarding the speculation of Google leaving China, as they use Google as their primary search engine.

This survey not only proved the popularity of Google among the Chinese research scholars and scientists, but also burst the bubble of Baidu myth. Baidu is undoubtedly the most popular search engine out there, but when it comes to searching the research oriented educational and global news, Chinese too prefer Google over them. They think that Baidu’s excellence only covers the Chinese contents; its algos still no match to Google’s prolificacy.
So if Google decides to shift-del their Chinese version (google.cn), its most likely to put a very thick layer of 380 million Internet users in China into serious trouble. And we can never rule out the possibility of Chinese government putting a complete ban on Google in China as a reaction. This will then definitely affect a huge portion of Chinese citizens very negatively.
Though the likes of “pubmed” and “web of science” will still be available for Chinese scholars to dig, but the key of the gate, named Google will be lost barring them from accessing a huge ore of knowledge.
